A cohesive bandage sticks to itself and not to hair or skin. It is the easiest wrap for covering a wound and holding a dressing in place.

What is a cohesive bandage

It is a stretchy wrap. Each layer sticks to the layer below. It does not stick to skin or hair. So the animal feels no pain when you take it off. No tape or pins are needed. The A2Z cohesive bandage comes in 5, 7.5 and 10 cm widths. One roll weighs 28 g and a pack holds 12 rolls.

Why a cohesive bandage beats a plain cloth wrap

A plain cloth wrap comes loose. When the animal walks the wrap slides. A cohesive bandage stretches and takes the shape of the leg. It stays in place even when wet. It works on cattle, horses, dogs and sheep.

How to wrap a cohesive bandage on an animal's leg step by step

1. Wash your hands or wear gloves.
2. Clean the wound and place clean gauze or cotton on it. Never put the bandage straight on the wound.
3. Start the roll a little below the wound and make one full turn.
4. Each new turn should cover half of the last one. Work from the bottom upward.
5. Stretch the wrap only a little. Too much stretch cuts off blood flow.
6. Go past the top of the wound and cut the roll. The end sticks on its own.
7. Slide two fingers under the wrap. They should fit. If not then wrap again.

When to change the bandage

Change the wrap when it gets wet or dirty. If the leg swells open it at once. Cut the wrap off with scissors. Never pull it off. On a large animal tie it up before you start.

What to check before you buy

• Width: 5 cm for small animals and narrow spots like a toe. 7.5 cm for a normal leg. 10 cm for the large legs of cattle and horses.
• Pack: a pack holds 12 rolls. Keep all three sizes in the shop.
• Stretch: the wrap should stretch and spring back. A loose wrap does not work.
